Blackpool 0 - 0 Preston - All square in the West Lancashire Derby
March 15, 2008
The much awaiting Blackpool V Preston derby took place this morning at Bloomfield Road, the game ended 0-0 so none of the fans were able to command the bragging rights in West Lancashire for Monday morning. However it was the home side were the better side and Preston keeper Andy Lonergan kept the scored at 0-0 making saves in the first and second half.
Blackpool were looking for a double over their closeted rivals rivals after beating Preston at Deepdale 1-0 back in December. A packed Bloomfield Road witnessed a first half where the home side should have taken the lead, a bouncing ball was hit on the volley by Gary Taylor-Fletcher from 20-yards but Lonergan was equal to it tipping the ball over the bar. Next Claus Jorgensen pilldrived a shot just wide as the away defense started to look shakey, Youl Mawene in particular looked under pressure.

Mawene was booked for bringing down Burgess while he was making headway to the goal, but for a fellow defender Mawene would have been sent off, Stephen Crainey fired just over from the freekick. Preston best chance of the half was also from a free kick, Ian Evatt was booked for what seemed a 50-50 challenge with Chris Brown. Darren Carter took the free kick from the edge of the area but his effort was fired straight at Blackpool keeper Paul Rachubka.
In the second half the trend continued with Micheal Flynn and Stephen McPhee having good opportunities. As the game went on it was Blackpool who pushed forward at every opportunity with every throw in and free kick seeing the centre backs Evatt and Gorkss being pushed forward while Preston seemed to sit back and be content with the point.
The point sees both sides step closed to securing their status in the Championship.
