FA Cup – Lookalike

January 26, 2008

This morning Middlesbrough manged to scrape past Mansfield in the F.A. Cup winning 2-0 at Field Mill. While watching the match I noticed a lookalike, Stags boss Billy Dearden and Statler the old man muppet.

Havent gone out

January 17, 2008

We mentioned about Havant and Waterlooville chance of a F.A. Cup tie with Liverpool if they could overcome League One leaders Swansea City, and they did do it, scoring four goals in the process.

They took the lead on 4 minutes when Gary Monk put through his own net. Collins bundled effort to make it 2-0 and then Rocky Baptiste’s tap-in made it 3-0 on 37 minutes.  Guillem Bauza made it 3-1 before half time and then Swans midfielder Leon Britton has a penalty saved which would have made it 3-2.

Jason Scotland then made it 3-2 a couple of minutes into the second half.  Tom Jordan’s header sealed the win making it 4-2. The final whistle was met with a classic pitch invasion and the plum tie of the round which could bring in £800,000 to Havant and Waterlooville.

The Keegan Effect

January 16, 2008

As mentioned before, Kevin Keegan is back at Newcastle United. He didn’t take charge of tonights game and instead watched from the directors box. He did see Uriah Rennie being a spoon by not sending off John Eustace. Anyway Newcastle stomped away with a 4-1 victory over Stoke.

They were 1-0 up thanks to Micheal Owen by the time Emre was sent off, Claudio Cacapa made it 2-0 before half time. In the second half James Milner made it three and Damien Duff rounded it off with the final goal of the night. Former Sunderland player Liam Lawrence grabbed a late consolation goal.

So the reign of Kevin Keegan started well, and he didn’t even pick the team, maybe they won’t need to re-style the team as this advert from his first reign suggested.

Uriah Rennie what a spoon

January 16, 2008

Tonight Uriah Rennie has once again shown why he is a spoon by causing a red card. In the Newcastle V Stoke cup game, John Eustace went in for a challenge with Emre, he was high and late, a boarderline red card. Uriah Rennie was about 2 yards from the incident, the players stopped for a couple of secons waiting for the whistle from Uriah Rennie, nothing came on. Emre luckily got up and played on.

Uriah Rennie

what are you doing you spoon?

As we know the Turks can be slightly hot headed at times, ask any Leeds fans,  Emre came back peformed a Roy Keane V Alf Inge Haaland style tackle, ‘take that you c**t’, you know the type.

Now,  Uriah Rennie does get his hand in a pocked and dishes out the red card. A correct decision, but one that could have been avoided if he send off John Eustace for the first tackle.

Bury shake Norwich up

January 16, 2008

Bury managed to pull off a shock in the FA Cup third round replays last night beating Norwich 2-1 at Gigg Lane.

We mentioned the other day about Chris Casper being sacked at Bury after a poor run of form recently and it seems to have done the trick with caretaker manger Chris Brass steering the side to the victory last night.

Bury went 2-0 up in the game thanks to goals from Andy Bishop and Ben Futcher. Dion Dublin did grab a goal late on but the home side withstood the pressure from the Championship side to earn a place in the next round and a tie against another Championship side Southampton

Not so friendly times for Casper

January 14, 2008

Bury have sacked their manager Chris Casper and Keith Alexander the clubs director of football this afternoon.

Bury have been in a slump recently with the last win coming back in November at home over Peterborough. The poor run of form has seen the Shakers move to 19th in the league 5 points away from safety,

A club statement said the pair had “lost the confidence of a large majority of the fans”.  Bury are due to take on Championship Norwich tomorrow night in a 3rd round FA Cup reply after holding them to a draw at Carrow Road.

HAVANT DREAM OF ANFIELD TRIP

January 7, 2008

Blue Square South side Havant and Waterlooville have been handed a dream FA Cup fourth round tie against Liverpool should they overcome Swansea City and The Reds dispose of Luton Town in third round replays.

Player Manager Charlie Oatway told BBC Radio 5 Live  “It’s a fantastic draw – it couldn’t have gone much better,”

Third Round giant-killers Oldham Athletic and Huddersfield Town were paired together in a potential War of the Roses tie at Boundary Park whilst holders Chelsea travel to the JJB Stadium to face Wigan Athletic.
