Chester appoint former Manchester United winger
March 11, 2008
Former Manchester United and Macclesfield Town midfielder Simon Davies has been appointed manager of League Two side Chester City until the end of the season.
The move follows his successful appointment as Caretaker – Manager last week.
Davies was previously employed as Chester’s youth team manager and is said to be “as pleased as punch” to be offered the first team role.
The former speedy winger was part of Manchester United’s successful youth team in the mid 1990s which included the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Gary Neville.
Now he has his first real chance in management and told the club’s official website –
“I have enjoyed every minute of the last week. Obviously the results have been disappointing but we’ve created chances in the two games I’ve been in charge, and I know that we will turn things around.”
An assistant is set to be named within the next day or two whilst City have the opportunity to reward Davies with his first win when they play Bradford City tomorrow evening.
Chester have lost 13 of their previous 16 games and currently lie 17th in League Two
Good luck Simon!
