Croatia 2-1 Germany

June 12, 2008

There was a bit of an upset this afternoon in Euro 2008 with Croatia beating favorites Germany 2-1. Slaven Bilic’s men took a 2-0 lead and hung on to seal a victory taking them to the top of Group B. Croatia could have had three goals in the first half but only managed the one when Darijo Srna snook in at the far post to poke the ball home.

The lead was doubled in the second half following a mistake from keeper Lehmann, Ivan Rakitic’s deflected cross was tipped onto the post by Lehmann and Ivica Olic slotted the ball into an empty net. The Germans pushed and Lukas Podolski smashed the ball home to make it 2-1. Bastian Schweinsteiger’s was sent off in the closing moments for raising his hands.

Both sides should progress to the next round with one game to go.
