Leeds secure final place
May 16, 2008
Leeds United continued their amazing season beating Carlisle last night to grab a place in the League Two play-off final. A last gasp goal from Jonathan Howson secured a 2-0 win on the night go progress 3-2 on aggregate. The goal in 90th minute was Howson’s second of the game after his first ten minutes into the match had put the tie level.
Carlisle had taken a 2-1 lead into the second leg at home and with a crowd of 12,873 but they were not good enough to keep the lead. Howson, 19, gave the away side the lead driving the ball home from a Dougie Freedman cross.
It seemed that the game was going to go into extra time, but Howson’s third of the season, a low shot into the bottom corner sealed the win and a place at Wembley. Leeds will face either Doncaster or Southend who play tonight after a first leg score of 0-0.
