Pilgrims Plot League Return

February 28, 2008

Nationwide North side Boston United have described their talks with the Inland Revenue as “encouraging” as the battle to clear the debts which elicited a two league demotion at the end of last season continues.

The Pilgrims finished 23rd in the Football League last season following a final day defeat at Wrexham and Macclesfield earning a point against Notts County.

Boston then proceeded into administration straight after the final whistle in a bid to not incur a points deficit at the start of this season. Such shady tricks helped the Blue Square Premier to refuse them entry into their league and thus Boston now play two leagues below League Two in the Nationwide North.

Much has been documented of the dealings of former Manager Steve Evans as the club launch their long term plan to get back into the Football League, but with the legacy of former troubles still very much apparent and a team struggling in the league, the fight looks to be one which will not be over for some time.

Personally, I feel Boston deserve their fate in the lower leagues, however I really do feel for their fans who support their team through thick and thin with a blind devotion to their club – true football fans!
